‘From north/south take A77 to Ballantrae >From north go through Ballantrae, over the River Stinchar, then first left (caravan sign). Cosses Country House is 2 miles on the right at the top of the hill. Descend the drive into the hidden valley.

From the south approach the village and turn right before the 30mph signs – then as above.’

Ballantrae now has a lovely garden centre and café where you can enjoy stunning views out to sea.

From the north on the A77 stop at Dowhill Country Fare (just south of Turnberry) to enjoy the stunning views of Ailsa Craig, have a coffee (and buy Ayrshire potatoes) and Inspirations www.inspirations-gifts.net for unusual gifts.

Designs Gallery and Cafe at Castle Douglas is a great stopping off point. It is the Food Town of Scotland or alternatively Café Cree in Newton Stewart.

Also en route on A75 at Carsluith Castle is Marrbury Smokehouse – the best smoked salmon in Scotland and a great place for a bite to eat or collect a picnic.
