Coming from the north on the A77 stop at Dowhill Country Fayre (just south of Turnberry) to enjoy the stunning views of Ailsa Craig, have a coffee (and buy Ayrshire potatoes) and visit Inspirations Gift Shop for unusual gifts. Or else try Woodlands Farm Shop for fabulous local and home grown produce.
From the south Designs Gallery and Cafe at Castle Douglas is a great stopping off point. It is the Food Town of Scotland. Alternatively try Café Cree in Newton Stewart.
Also en route on the A75 at Carsluith Castle is Marrbury Smokehouse – the best smoked salmon in Scotland and a great place for a bite to eat or collect a picnic.
