“Taking place between the 1st and the 9th of September 2012, the first ever Taste Ayrshire Food Festival is a long overdue celebration of the fantastic array of food and drink produced across the region. Journeying the iconic coastline stretching from Ballantrae to Largs, sailing the sea to Arran, and wandering inland to the hidden gems of Catrine, Kilbirnie and Maybole we have worked with local producers, retailers, restaurants, schools, hotels and markets to bring you an astonishingly diverse listing of events, visits and special menus featuring the very best Ayrshire has to offer.
Join us for delicious dining experiences, watch and listen to the experts in food production and preparation, get ‘hands on’ with practical workshops and visit our stunning hotels and restaurants to sample beautifully prepared and presented local food. Start off with tea and homemade cake on arrival (hopefully in the garden). Dinner will include gastronomic delights produced in the country kitchen, all created from the best of local produce – home grown vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden, local reared meat from Dalduff Farm Shop including Crailoch lamb from our neighbour’s field. Seafood caught by Eric McIllwraith around the Ballantrae coast- lobster and crab). Scottish cheese from Braehead Foods including Ayrshire Barwhays, Ayrshire Dunlop and Aiket Bri with homemade oatcakes and grape and quince jelly and delicious desserts created around fruit from the orchard. Choose the right wine, from a discerning list, to accompany your meal, then finish with a malt whisky from the Cosses list.
Breakfast also offers some surprises from the traditional Full Scottish to various fish dishes and Shirred Eggs. With an emphasis on healthy eating we provide fresh fruit salad, summer fruit compote as well as home-made bread and preserves.
